What are Gelatin Plate Monotypes?
Using unflavored gelatin, (yes, like Jell-o) a plate is poured into a clay frame and congealed in the refrigerator. The frame is removed and the plate is ready to be brayed or painted with water soluble inks. Using stencils, stamps, and other texture making tools, the plate is manipulated until ready to pull the print. The paper is placed on top of the inked gelatin plate and rubbed gently by hand. The paper is removed, and voila, the print is made.

The new prints below, numbers 1 through 43, were made May 5th and 6th, 2007 by Ellen Knudson at the Atlanta Printmakers Studio in Atlanta during the Gelatin Plate Printmaking workshop she taught.
